FAQs

How is Wag & Shine different?

We started Wag & Shine with a mission to make every grooming experience a happy one.  For this reason, we consistently go above and beyond to ensure that we’re delighting you and your dog.  We take great pride in our unsurpassed attention to safety, quality, and comfort.  If for any reason you are ever not fully satisfied, just let us know and we’ll work to make it right.

Our grooms occur in our state-of-the-art grooming van that brings all of the amenities of an upscale grooming salon to your front door.  Our grooming stylists are highly skilled professionals and industry veterans with unmatched breadth and depth of grooming expertise.

Wag & Shine works hard to treat our team members professionally and respectfully.  For example, we create opportunities for professional growth and sponsor team members to attend workshops and trade shows.  This helps our team stay current with the latest grooming trends. Our full-time employees are all also offered healthcare benefits and paid-time off.

What is the background of your groomers?

Our team is made up of highly experienced grooming stylists, each with at least 5-10 years of grooming experience.  All of our stylists are vetted through a robust interview process and a background check.

WHAT ARE YOUR COVID PRECAUTIONS?

To help keep you, your pets, and our team healthy and safe, we actively monitor COVID-19 guidance from the CDC and local authorities and will continue to adjust our approaches accordingly. You can rest assured that between each appointment, we use a pet-safe and EPA-approved disinfectant to sanitize and disinfect our grooming tools, equipment, and high-touch surfaces. Additionally, our team actively monitors their health, and will not come to work if they have signs of illness (coughing, running a fever, experiencing shortness of breath), if they have tested positive for COVID-19, or if they are quarantining per CDC guidance. If you or a family member is currently ill (coughing, running a fever, experiencing shortness of breath), if you have tested positive, or if you are quarantining, please alert us and we will postpone the grooming visit.

Will you need to use my electricity or water?

No, we do not need to use your electricity or water. Our vans are top of the line Mercedes Benz Sprinters that have been specially designed for grooming.  They have electricity and carry their own clean and heated water.  We capture all dirty water in a separate tank and dispose of it each day.

How long will it take to groom my dog?

We typically allow 1-2 hours per dog. The amount of time spent depends on the dog’s size, breed, and temperament, as well as the regularity of grooming.

How often should I get my dog groomed?

This varies based on breed, lifestyle, grooming preferences, and your dog’s coat type.  It also depends on how much brushing and combing you are able to do in between grooms.

For most dogs, we recommended grooming every 4-6 weeks. If your dog has medium or long hair, this will usually keep his or her hair from getting overly matted.  Dogs that shed a lot will experience less shedding when groomed on a regular schedule.

How old does a puppy need to be to have their first spa day?

An early start on a grooming regimen will make it easiest for your furry family member get used to the routine. Even if a haircut isn’t needed, we recommend a bath after 10-12 weeks of age (and after appropriate shots have been administered).

Do you have a weight limit for dogs?

We currently cater to dogs that are 55 pounds and under.

My dog is matted – will you need to shave him or her?

We understand that a dog’s coat can become matted.  We will use a deep conditioner to detangle the hair and will do our best to save as much of the coat as possible.  Depending on the severity of the matting, brushing through matted hair can be painful to your dog. Therefore, a complete shave of a matted coat is sometimes required.  This option will be discussed with you and agreed by you before we proceed. In cases of severe matting, additional fees may apply due to the additional time required.

Do you groom cats?

We do not currently offer services for cats.

What vaccinations do you require?

We require all pets to be current on their rabies vaccinations and to wait at least 48 hours after any vaccinations before your appointment.  This helps ensure your pet isn’t sore at the injection site.

Is grooming possible if my dog isn’t feeling well?

All pets must be in good health prior to receiving any grooming services.
